During the recent refit of The Glass House on Marella Discovery The Deluxe Group worked with Marella Cruises to transform the indoor pool and dining venue from the original Greco-Roman design into a casual, relaxed space with fresh new look and a modern beach club vibe.
The works involved the re-tiling of an existing swimming pool, installation of new flooring throughout, rewiring of the entire area to facilitate a new lighting system which provides different light moods for daytime and evening to really create the perfect beach club ambience. Soft furnishing works included new cabana-style sunbeds, sun loungers, dining tables, sofas and chairs and wall coverings.
Chris Hackney, Managing Director of Marella Cruises, said: “We’re delighted with the refurbishment of The Glass House on Marella Discovery. We’re always thinking of ways we can make the experience onboard even better for our customers and the revamped space offers the perfect spot for a poolside drink during the day or a laid-back dining option by night.”
The complete refurbishment took place at anchor off the south coast of the UK, providing unique challenges for the team to overcome including quite complicated logistics and the unpredictable British winter weather as David Jenner, Associate Director at The Deluxe Group attests, “we had to be very flexible in our approach and adapt our daily plans at times due to high winds and health and safety concerns over completing certain tasks. We are very proud of the fabulous refit our team was able to accomplish under challenging circumstances”.
The Deluxe Group has a well-earned reputation of delivering complex, challenging projects; “The team go above and beyond, often thinking outside the box, to deliver projects on time and on budget. They have proven to be unflappable during our latest project which has been completed with the vessel out of service, at anchor, under the most stringent conditions due to the current pandemic. Deluxe were able to adapt to all of these challenges to ensure that they delivered a successful project for us”, commented Andrew Menzies, Head of Technical Operations at Marella Cruises.
